The SABRE EOD Weapon has been designed by Ballistic FM Limited (BFM) to provide a light, easily portable, highly manipulative means of cutting wires, within IEDs by utilising its Ceramic Blade. This negates the EOD Operator having any physical contact with an IED where wires are the only available target and if necessary two wires can be attacked.

The SABRE EOD Weapon comes complete in its own robust carry case and can be deployed remotely or manually.  The stand allows the weapon to be deployed flat to the floor or at any desired angle.

The SABRE EOD weapon barrel, breech, mount and stand assembly weighs 1096g and has been designed to be compact. It is easily carried in theatre, is more user friendly in its operation and the nonconductive blade makes for a more successful attack on twin core cable than previously achieved. The Sabre system uses the existing Standard Operating Procedures for use of EOD barrels and disruptors which eases substantially the introduction of the system to operators.

In use the Sabre works in 2 unique ways;

  1. It fires a ceramic blade to cut wire targets in order to break the circuit within an IED.  The key benefit with the ceramic blade is; where an EOD Operator faces a Victim Operated switch with wires as the only target, and the wires are joined by insulation - both wires can be cut.  The Ceramic Blade makes a perfect cut, leaving the wires own insulation to provide protection, and once that is further insulated, it allows the EOD Operator to continue EOD action knowing the circuit is broken and the IED is safer for next phase of clearance.

  2. SABRE can also be used as a means of selective disruption.  Using 10ml of water contained within the barrel the explosive energy from the Sound Unit when fired pushes the water from the barrel and effectively turns the water into a rod of iron to push components from their seating within a circuit.  This allows batteries to be removed from their original position or indeed selective removal of a battery through an envelope where postal IEDs are concerned.
